Get your FREE credit report…
Identity theft in the U.S. is very rampant and the credit reporting agencies have the notoriety of including inaccurate information on consumer credit reports. As a result, each year, millions of consumers are denied loans to buy a car or home or are excessively charged interest rates on their loans because of the information on their credit reports.
Due to all of the above, it is strongly recommended that you frequently review your credit report. This ensures that the information on your credit report is always accurate, complete, and up-to-date before you apply for credit, insurance, employment, or to lease an apartment.
The GOOD NEWS is that under federal law, you can request a free credit report:
- Any time a company denies your application for credit, insurance, or employment (you must ask for your credit report within 60 days of receiving the notification).
- Once a year if you’re unemployed and plan to look for a job within 60 days.
- Once a year if you’re on welfare.
- Once a year if your report is inaccurate because of fraud, including identity theft.
Additionally, a new change in the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), now requires ALL nationwide consumer reporting agencies to provide you with a free copy of your credit report. The three major consumer reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union have a toll-free telephone number, mailing address, and consumer website where you can order your free, annual credit report.
To order your free annual credit report, call 877-322-8228, complete and mail an Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281, or visit www.annualcreditreport.com, which is the only authorized online source for ordering your free and immediate annual credit report. |
